Beachy Head
Beachy Head The highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, Beachy Head rises 530 feet (162 metres) above the sea and provides both wonderful panoramic views of Sussex and an excellent photo opportunity of Eastbourne seafront from above.
On a very clear day to the East, Dungeness in Kent is visible nearly 40 miles away. To the West up to 70 miles away, Selsey Bill and even the outline of the Isle of Wight can be seen.
At Beachy Head, enjoy a meal with wonderful views across the Downs at the Beachy Head Pub, or visit the Beachy Head Countryside Centre to find out more about the natural downland geology, flora and fauna.
The centre tells the history of the downland beginning with Neolithic Man through the Bronze Age, Ice Age, Roman and Medieval times ending with today's farming methods in the 20th century.
Hop on an open topped bus tour from Eastbourne Pier to Beachy Head or see the dramatic cliffs from the sea by taking a boat trip from the beach or from Sovereign Harbour.
On foot, enjoy a guided walk with the Downland Ranger and discover the natural flora and fauna of the Downland, including an exploration of the Falling Sands beach at the foot of Beachy Head.
