Here's to the semester I spent every morning checking my phone hoping you'd write to me.

Here's to the four months I spent knowing exactly what I want and having no chance of getting it.

Here's to all those harsh realisations about you not loving me the way I love you.

Here's to all those days I looked back on what happened a day ago hoping you'd get nostalgic and come back to me.

Here's to all the lies I told myself in older to get better for a week or so only to get even more depressed upon realising I just lied to myself again.

Here's to all those mornings I woke up from dreams about you coming back and then having to realise we're still nowhere near being together nor did I have any evidence that we'd ever be.

Here's to all those nightmares I had about you coming back only to crush me, or introducing your new man.


Here's to all those days I spent lying on the floor, and I'll just go ahead and raise another one to the days that haven't arrived yet but I'm pretty sure they'll be here soon enough to crush all my reamining hopes that have long ago become a burden.

Here's to me, the goddamn holdout, one of those poor fucks who get to experience the way one of the greatest emotions of them all, love become a soul crushing chain that won't let him move on even when desolation laughs in his sleep deprived face.

And lastly, here's to you. The only woman dumb enough to lock down a man absolutely, and still letting him go to waste for other dicks, because 20 is the new 40 and you can't wait on a good old fashioned mid life crysis.
